Tracking Hurricane Dorian

UPDATE 8/31/2019 - 6:30 pm The National Weather Service reports that the path of Hurricane Dorian is moving further east. However, the storm has been very unpredictable. The School District and emergency officials are continuously monitoring the track and updating our plans to address the effects of potential deteriorating weather conditions.

Due to the most recent track change, the planned opening of school-based emergency shelters Sunday morning has been DELAYED. We will keep you informed as needs and conditions progress.

Coordination will continue with the National Weather Service and the State Division of Emergency Management on future track changes to finalize the timing for the opening of shelters.

As reported earlier today - Palm Beach County School District offices and schools will be closed on Tuesday, September 3rd. Please visit PalmBeachSchools.org/StormUpdates for more information.

8/31/2019 2:00 pm Schools and District offices will be CLOSED on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. The District is carefully monitoring Hurricane Dorian.

Information about shelters will be released later today.

8/31/2019 - 1:30 pm Palm Beach County officials will brief the media this afternoon at 2:00 pm.

Dr. Fennoy and other members of the County's Executive Policy Group have been meeting around the clock - more updates for staff, parents and the community are forthcoming.

8/30/2019 - 4:00 pm: The School District’s 15-designated hurricane shelters are prepared for opening as soon at the Department of Emergency Management deems necessary.

That will likely occur on Sunday morning.

The District has also designated a separate group of schools to open as food distribution site should the need arise.

As part of the County’s Executive Policy Group, Superintendent Donald Fennoy is in constant contact with the County’s top policy makers and emergency leaders.

The District will make a decision tomorrow regarding the closing of schools next week.

8/30/2019 - 12:00 pm: 15 District Operated schools are designated as hurricane shelters. The PBC Emergency Operations Center will determine when they open. Please do not go to a school shelter until they are officially designated as open. Click here for the complete list of shelters.

8/29/2019 - 12:00 pm: Check the School & Activity Status page for changes to football games

8/29/2019 - 3:00 pm: The School District of Palm Beach County is working closely with the Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center and state weather forecasters in preparation for Hurricane Dorian. After carefully monitoring the anticipated track and arrival of the storm, now predicted to make landfall along the east coast of Florida Monday, District operated schools and offices will be open tomorrow, Friday, August 30th.

Elementary school after-care will operate as normal on Friday.

Sporting events and other after school activities are canceled for Friday.

Palm Beach County’s Department of Emergency Management determines when emergency shelters open. Fifteen District schools are designated shelters.

It is important to remember that not all emergency shelters will be open at the same time. Make sure to monitor local media or check the Department of Emergency Management’s website, ReadyPBC.com, for more information. A list of shelters and evacuation zones is also displayed on that site.

The District will provide updates through phone calls, emails, through local news media, and on the District website at palmbeachschools.org/stormupdates

As a reminder the district office and schools are closed Monday, September 2 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

8/28/2019 - 2:30 pm: The School District of Palm Beach County is monitoring the progress of Hurricane Dorian. Although the storm is still days away from approaching the Florida peninsula, and the projected path is uncertain, families and employees are encouraged to prepare.

At this time, our school schedules are operating as normal, and all after-school activities are still scheduled. Should that change, you will be updated through our District Website, through social media, and by local media.

Our top priority is to ensure the safety of our students, staff and community. The Palm Beach County School District is currently working with officials from the Emergency Operation Center. Plans have been made to open several of our schools as shelters, should that become necessary.

This is a good time to check your supplies and make any provisions you deem necessary. The District has activated a storm update website, palmbeachschools.org/stormupdates which includes information about school status, shelters, and more. This site will be continually updated.

8/27/2019 - 4:30 pm: The School District of Palm Beach County is monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Dorian. Although the storm is still days away from approaching the Florida peninsula, and the projected path is uncertain, families and employees are encouraged to prepare.

Should severe weather affect Palm Beach County, the District will work with emergency management officials, including the National Weather Service.

Our top priority is to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

This is a good time to make sure that your District contact information is up to date, and that you are familiar with your school or department's emergency phone tree so effective communication can be passed along.

8/26/2019 - 5:00 pm: While Dorian is not a threat to the United States at this time, the School District of Palm Beach County is actively monitoring its progress. We will provide updates as they become available, if anything changes.
